In this series titled “Eternal Feminine,” I explore the idea of a female’s journey to become the idea of woman as defined by self, others, and society. In Simone de Beauvoir’s treatise The Second Sex, Book II, she asserts, “One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.” She implies the archetype of “the feminine” is defined by what it means within one’s specific society to be a woman; how these ideals of self are thrust upon a female as she develops. The thread of the photo series begins with this basal idea.
